1.Dominance the owner has not asserted his position as leader of the pack or your family (as your dog considers them)if he believes he is higher in the pecking order than yourself or other members of your family , then his jumping at you may be an alpha dominance problem , in this case dog obedience training is required to train your dog to realizeĀ  that he is not the dominant family or pack member.

2.Greeting people this is mainly born of habit,a dog will use his sense of smell to distinguish between people and other animals they react with affection toward familiar scents, as human scent glands are stronger around the head and upper body they jump in order to obtain a stronger scent.

3.Habit when the dogs owner does not reprimand the dog or puppy for jumping but instead welcomes it or lets him get away with it then the dog knows no better and he sees it an normal

There are some simple techniques that will help to stop a dog jumping

1.When you come home stoop to meet your dog this way it is harder for him to jump up at you

2.Do not introduce him to visitors straight away make sure he is aware of visitors but do not introduce him to them for 5-15 minutes if he still jumps startle him with something harmless such as a water pistol

3.Do not let your dog jump at you when you play with him don’t encourage jumping games or wrestling games these sort of games challenge your dominance and make the dog used to jumping at you
