1.You must establish alpha authority over a doberman, so must your family, this means that they must be properly trained and socialized, if you do not it is hard to control them but this breed enjoys being protective and are willing to please, they are easy to train.
2.They often bond to one person by making sure the whole family train interact and command the dog you should be able to overcome this.
Dobermans have a reputation of being an aggressive dog but in reality they are gentle, they are exceptional watchdogs and very loyal and protective, providing they are socialized correctly to you and your family especially children they will protect you to the death.

Health problems that these dogs are prone to are bloating, hip dyspepsia, wobblers syndrome (a misalignment of the vertebrae), obesity and occasionally von Willebrands disease which is similar to hemophilia in humans where the blood does not clot easily and the dog will bleed profusely from a cut, there are checks that can be performed by vets that will help identify the probability of some of these conditions but finding a reputable breeder will help and do check the dogs parentage for health issues if possible.
About the breed
Dobermans are a breed created around the 19th century by a German dog enthusiast and tax collector Louis Dobermann, he wanted to create the perfect watch dog and bodyguard and they certainly do have all these characteristics in fact they are often used for tracking, guarding, search and rescue plus other disciplines within the police and military.
How to care for Dobermans
Dobermans are not really a back yard dog and are very sensitive to cold weather, their coats are not very good at keeping them warm, they need quiet a lot of exercise but more importantly they need close family interaction, they are a people dogs and as such need to be around and stimulated by people.
